Stirling Book Company’s first book club pick: At Last Count
October 01, 2024
It’s very fun to be heading to Stirling, Ontario a couple of hours east of Toronto on Saturday, Oct 19, 12-3pm, for Stirling Book Company’s newly launched book club. At Last Count is going to be its first book club pick.
We’ve crossed paths with the town of Stirling a few times, Kirk and I. He first worked at the Stirling Festival Theatre in 1998 (the year our first child was born—it was summer, and I was verrrrry pregnant, I remember that much). He reprised his role as Sarge in the musical The War Show by Peter Colley, directed by Caroline Smith. Then Kirk was back at the theatre in 2003, touring the one-man show Billy Bishop Goes to War with Ergo Arts Theatre.
So we’re looking forward to coming back on Saturday, Oct 19.
We’ll be at Stirling Book Company (36 Mill St, Stirling) to talk about all things At Last Count. The book is primarily set on Amherst Island, not too far from Stirling, and the book’s publisher, Invisible Publishing, is located in Picton, Prince Edward County—also not far.
Info sessions about the book club are happening Wed. Oct 2 and Thursday, Oct 3. (And please come along even if you aren’t an official member of Stirling Book Company’s book club. It’s new. It’ll be fun. I promise).
You can buy At Last Count when you’re there, or order it from Stirling Book Company – just reach out at 1.613.395.3030 or hello@stirlingbookco.ca. If you already have the book, no problem—join us for the conversation anyway.
Kirk Dunn is coming along to talk about the Henslow's Sparrow pillow he designed to promote the book…the Henslow’s Sparrow plays a special role in the book. (And for you knitters in attendance, he’ll be offering the pattern on Ravelry at a steep discount).
Our friends Christopher Walker and Jamie Godin of local Cabin Boy Knits will be by with a pop-up shop of their incredible hand-dyed yarns right in-store.
And there will be a door prize. Who doesn’t like a door prize? It may be of the knitting or literary variety… You’ll have to come by to find out which.
So readers, knitters, and birders, unite! Let's hang out and talk about At Last Count. I’ll also include a few updates on the two new books I’ve been furiously writing of late.
And bring your knitting if you so desire—Kirk, Jamie and Christopher I'm sure will be knitting up a storm as we chat.
Hope to see you there.
All the best,
Claire
